Walking Backwards
My interest lies in exploring the complexities of love, particularly the love that is filled with obstacles and difficulties. As a lonely individual waiting to be heard, the lack of desire and imagination becomes more apparent when the need for form is satisfied. As a result, emotions such as love must go through the painful process of disillusionment.
In the first semester of my project, I chose to document myself and my toys. The act of biting implies dissatisfaction that started from the oral stage. As the performance progressed, I became more immersed, and the act of protection became intertwined with possessive and even violent love. The close-up photos of me kissing my teddy bear and the bear's eyes reflect my projection of self onto the toys. I am attempting to repair the chaos and insecurity of my childhood while also displaying a form of self-love. The love for inanimate objects reflects a sense of inadequacy, incomplete development of self-love, and love. This demonstrates how I, and others in this subculture, have a fragmented and incomplete way of looking at love and the external world – a form of object-oriented fetishism.
